چکیده
The following topics, amonig others, aire conisidered: Pfeffer 's hypothesis of an invisible plasma membrane, to account for similarities in the osmotic behavior of plant cells and artificial osmometers; early doubts as to the reality of Pfeffer's membrane; denial by colloid chemists of the existence of plasma membranes because of the supposed failure of cells to obey osmotic laws; demonstrations of thin, external cell membranes by electrical and micromanipulative methods; use of the plasma membranie in the matheniatical treatment of cell permeability; the niature of so-called "'perfect osmometers"'; the erytbrocyte as anl osmometer; hemolytic evideiece of the existenice of an erythrocyte membraine.

P-23: Is There An Association between HOST Grades and Sperm Quality
Background: Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can be considered the solstice in vitro insemination technique because it has powerfully allowed the treatment of male factor infertility, but in this procedure, except visual morphological selection, there is no standardization for sperm selection. Recently, hypo osmotic swelling test (HOST) has been proposed to have the potential to select i...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Review of Membrane Distillation and Osmotic Distillation in Agro-Food Applications
Membrane distillation (MD) and osmotic distillation (OD) are emerging athermal processing techniques of great interest in agro-food production where the most part of products is sensitive to thermal treatments. With respect to conventional methods, MD and OD are competitive alternatives, able to work in an environmental-friendly and cost-efficient way, for preserving the nutritional and sensori...
متن کاملConcentration of Colourful Wild Berry Fruit Juices by Membrane Osmotic Distillation via Cascade Model Systems
Fresh juices of colourful wild berries: cornelian cherry, blackthorn, white beam and elderberry are considered as valuable, highly nutritive beverages and characterized by the high level of vitamins and antioxidant capacity. The concentration process of these juices by membrane osmotic distillation was studied, where only water vapour is eliminated, while the heat sensitive, valuable compounds ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Osmotic Dehydration on Reverse Osmosis Membrane Performance
Akin type (asymmetric) reverse osmosis membranes undergo an irreversible osmotic dehydration upon coming into contact (skin side) with salt solutions. The extent of consequent changes (in appearance; decrease in linear dimension, water flux and salt rejection) are dependent on the salt concentration. These observations are correlated with the expected morphological changes taking place duri...
متن کاملConcentrating Red Beet Juice Using Osmotic Distillation: Effects of Device Structure
Background and Objectives: Red beet juice, a potential source of valuable nutrients, is widely used as a colorant in food industries. In recent years, to avoid reduction of nutritional values of the red beet during concentration by thermal processing, an osmotic distillation (OD) technique has been suggested. Therefore, the major aim of the present study was to investigate effects of the flow r...
